Fix: "Could not open update site" Error for JMedia, Quix, Instant Page, Morph, and Notifly in Joomla!

Background

ThemeXpert has moved to a new server. Extension updates are now served from my.converslabs.com instead of themexpert.com.

Joomla stores each extension's update URL locally under Extensions → Manage → Update Sites, and only refreshes that URL when the extension is reinstalled or updated to a new package. Sites already running a current version still have the old themexpert.com URL saved, so update checks fail even though the extension itself works fine.

Issue

Checking for updates on any of the affected extensions shows:

Could not open update site "[Extension Name]"

Affected extensions: JMedia, Quix, Instant Page, Morph, Notifly (and other ThemeXpert extensions).

Solution

This is a one-time manual cleanup. Once you install the next release of an extension, its update URL updates automatically.

  1. Log in to your Joomla administrator panel.

  2. Go to Extensions → Manage → Update Sites.

  3. Search for each affected extension: JMedia, Quix, Instant Page, Morph, Notifly.

  4. For each one, find the entry where Location contains themexpert.com and select its checkbox.

  5. Click Disable (or Delete) from the toolbar.

  6. Repeat for every extension on the list.

  7. Go to Extensions → Update → Check for Updates to confirm Joomla now reads from the current update site: my.converslabs.com.

Joomla checks every saved update site independently, so a stale themexpert.com entry will keep failing even after the correct one exists — removing it is what resolves the error.

Still Having Issues?

If the error persists after removing the old update site URLs:

  • Clear your Joomla cache under System → Clear Cache.

  • Confirm the extension is still active under Extensions → Manage → Manage.

  • Contact ThemeXpert support with a screenshot of the Update Sites page showing the entry for the affected extension.
